Bamboo Viscose vs. Tencel™ Modal

We made a conscious decision to sell the "bamboo" viscose name products everyone knows and loves, while also offering an alternative line of Tencel™ Modal fabric, trademarked by Austrian company Lenzing AG, that is more eco-conscious and feels just as luxurious.

Sustainability:

Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on Earth, making it a highly renewable resource, and biodegradable. It can be harvested without killing the plant, and requires far less water than cotton.

Tencel™ Modal is produced from Beech tree pulp, which is a highly renewable resource. They require less land and water to conventional cotton. The manufacturing process of this is "closed-loop", meaning most of the chemicals and solvents are recovered and recycled during the process, minimizing waste. This material is also certified as biodegradable.

Comfort and Durability:

Both have a buttery soft feel and have moisture-wicking properties. They are also both hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin.

Tencel™ has great wrinkle resistance and maintains color vibrancy through multiple washes.

Cons:

Bamboo viscose manufacturing is chemical-intensive and NOT a closed-loop process, meaning it produces waste into the environment. Bamboo viscose is also more prone to wrinkling and fading in vibrancy quicker than Tencel™, if washing instructions are not followed.

Tencel™ Modal is more expensive to produce, resulting in slightly higher product costs over bamboo viscose. Tencel™ may shrink on high heat.
